Totally BS A7V rumors…

So folks, it’s a slow day and I am on the beach with my family. So I am giving you this one rumor I got recently and I think it has to be BS. Don’t you think so too?

This is what I got:

Sony will be releasing their latest Alpha camera, the ILCE-7M5, at FY’24 H2, which will further enhance the photo and video experience.
The A7V keeps the 33 megapixels, but reads twice as fast as the A7IV, while the baseline ISO is lowered to 80, and features slightly enhanced dynamic range.

With a body design on par with the A7RV, the same 4-axis multi-angle LCD monitor, AI Processing Unit, 8-Stop stabilization and Dual CF-express type A compatible media slots. 14-Bit lossless/uncompressed RAW + JPG shooting upgraded from 6fps to 10fps and lasting at least 1,000 frames thanks to larger buffer. A7V surpasses the A7RV in terms of photographic and focusing experience, becoming the best hybrid camera.
For video, it inherits all the features from the A7CII (Log recording and LUT handling, Breathing compensation, AI-based Auto Framing), but also from the ZV-E1 (Dynamic active Mode stabilization and Cinematic Vlog Setting).
Doubling the readout speed gives the A7V Sony’s best ever 4K internal recording performance for full-frame mirrorless camera: 7K full width oversampled 4K at up to 60fps, 15+ stops of dynamic range (nearly 16 stops thanks to the 7K sampling and lower noise), and a readout time of 13ms*.
Meanwhile, its Super35mm video readout time is 6ms (2.5 times as fast as the FX30, Super35mm), realizing Super35mm 4.6K oversampled 4K recording up to 120fps with swift AE/AF.
Sony has no intention of discontinuing the A7IV, which will join the A7CII, ZV-E1, and A7V in constructing a new order in the market in the 2000 to 3000USD price range.

*: For full resolution readout video recording, the A7SIII has a fast 9ms readout time, but decent 4.2K readout resolution. And the A1 has a high readout resolution of 8.6K, but readout time is decent 17ms.

I will give it a 0,0000001% chance this is a real thing :)

Finally: Sony ZV-E10II will be announced on July 10

It took quite a while but finally Sony will announce their first new camera of the year. On July 10 they will unveil the Sony ZV-E10II. The camera will be announced along a new APS-C E-mount zoom kit lens. The new ZV will feature the same 26MP A6700 sensor.

A part of the camera and the kit lens there is nothing else that should be announced.

What’s next?

  • One of my trusted sources told me that the 85mm f/1.4 GM II will be announced on another press event shortly after the ZV-E10II launch. My guess is that it’s coming between late July-late August.
  • The 24-70mm f/2.0 GM will be announced along or slightly after the 85GMII launch.
  • In September we will also get a new FX9 successor and probably a new Alpha Full Frame camera (a7sIV?)
  • In October/November we will get 1 (maybe even 2) new Full Frame cameras!

That’s all for today. I hope to share more details about ZV, although, like most of you, I am more interested in things coming AFTER the July 10 event ;)

100% confirmed: Sony ZV-E10II announcement very soon!

I can now confirm the Sony ZV-E10II is coming very soon! Should get specs within 1-2 days!

At long last we finally have the first camera announcement of the year from Sony. We should also get a new APS-C kit zoom lens designed for vloggers. Still don’t know if the 85mm f/1.4 GMII is going to be announced along this camera or a tiny bit later. And after that we will get the 24-70mm f/2.0 GM!

WILD RUMOR: Sony RX100 VIII coming by the end of 2024?

I received an indiscretion from an anonymous tipster that I would not normally dare to publish. Until two years ago I would never have believed that Sony would make a new successor to the RX100 VII. But nowadays there is a sudden great demand (and hype) for compact digital cameras. And I think it is no longer crazy to believe that Sony could update the current RX10VII making it appealing to the younger generation of “creatives” (a good word for TikTokker and Instagrammers). They could include some Ai and Vlogger functions and use a new lens to replace the 24-200 mm range. I see a 20-70 mm lens much more ideal for narcissistic “creators” :)

But now tell me what you think: Would a new RX100VIII make sense? Is it something you would consider purchasing?

POLL: What kind of new Sony camera would “wow” you?

In June/July we will get the new ZV-E10II. The real interesting cameras will be announced in second half of 2024:

  • In Q3 a new FX camera (likely FX9 successor) and a new Alpha camera (maybe new A7sIV)
  • In Q4 probably another Alpha (A7V?) and maybe another “Unexpected” camera.

So one of the cameras might be “unexpected”. This is still an unconfirmed rumor (trusted sources did not say a word yet). But for the sake of discussion let Sony know what you would like to get that is “different” than the camera series we have now:

I definitely would love to get...

Weird rumor about the Nikon Z6III using the same future Sony A7sIV sensor

Today Nikon will announce the new Nikon Z6III (here is the BHphoto page). I will post some information about it when it becomes official at 2 p.m. Berlin time. A Chinese account has leaked images and specifications.

But there is another rumor circulating that seems quite unusual: the Nikon Z6III will use a new 24MP sensor from Sony that will also be used on the future Sony A7sIV. This seems strange because so far Sony has always exclusively used the new sensors on their cameras, while Nikon followed more than 6 months later. I cannot imagine a scenario where Nikon uses a new Sony sensor and Sony, months later, announces a camera with the same sensor. That would take a lot of interest away from this future Sony camera!

So while I am certain the Z6III will use a Sony sensor I do believe the future A7sIV will have a different sensor from the Z6III.

Rumors: Sony will release PXW-Z200 and HXR-NX800 camcorders

Image on top shows the current HXR-NX70 model

Sony has officially registered the new PXW-Z200 and HXR-NX800 camcorders in China. No word yet on the specifications, but I guess most of you don’t care. Don’t worry if you only care about E-mount equipment: Sony has already registered two cameras in 2024: One is the ZV-E10II while the other could be the A7IV or another E-mount camera.
