A roundup of people that doesn’t like the new Sony Alpha cameras…

Everyone from Dpreview to Lumnous Landscape likes the new Sony cameras (epsecially the Translucent A55/A33 pair). But not everyone seems to be happy with the new products. I thought it is good for our readers to read the “different” opinions and arguments. So take it with a grain of salt ok?

The first negative post is from EosHD -> “Dear Sony… The A55 is just not good enough”.

The second is from Sony lover and hacker Vitaly Kiselev on DVXuser -> Sony a33/a55/a569/a580 disaster

They both follow our website so feel free to add your opinion by commenting this post!

Photozone tested the E-mount 16mm f/2.8 and 18-55mm lenses

The lens review website Photozone tested the new E-mount 16mm and 18-55mm lenses. According to their tests the 16mm lens “technically it isn’t really an impressive lens“. They liked the 18-55mm which “is a very decent kit zoom lens“.

Sony NEX-VG10 reviews and preorders roundup!

[shoplink 3058]Sony NEX-VG10[/shoplink] AVCHD E-Mount Lens Camcorder

Luminous Landscape tested the camera and explained why it has a “fake” 60i: “in brief, what’s going on is that the AVCHD standard doesn’t include 30P, but it does include 60i. Most Sony’s AVCHD cameras (including the VG10) capture 30P, but make it appear to other devices as 60i. Most non-linear editors, such as Final Cut, figure this out by themselves, and when you check the Info screen will confirm that the footage is 30P.“.
Luminous Landscape also talked about the missing 24p feature: “I asked the question of why 24P is missing of Sony’s marketing people and didn’t get a satisfactory answer. No Sony camcorders below their pro and semi-pro models have 24P. Many prosumer cameras from Canon, Panasonic and others do offer 24P, so it seems that this is simply a market segmentation strategy on Sony’s part. High-end cameras get it, lower end cameras don’t. Which means that in Sony’s marketing mind the VG10 is a low-end camera.

A Sony NEX-VG10 First Look Review has been posted at Digitalcamerareview and at Sonyinsider.

Alister Chpaman tested the NEX-VG10 and makes RAW files available for download! He is also sure that “this camera will be popular with those that are seeking the filmic look.”

NEX & Leica love: The compact Leica Summicron 35mm f/2.0

Today I want to start a new SonyAlphaRumors section. As you know many manufactors are building more and more adapters for E-mount cameras. Now you can use almost every lens on your NEX! I thought it would be nice if you would share your experience with non-Sony lenses like Leica or Canon FD lenses and more. I would be happy if you send me your images taken with third party lenses and also some nice cameraporn pictures :)

[shoplink 3491]There is a growing number of different Leica M-mount to E-mount adapters (just click here to check out the whole list on eBay)[/shoplink]. So let’s start with a very cute high-quality but also not to expensive lens (for Leica standards). The Leica Summicron 35mm f/2.0. I searched for image samples of that lens on a NEX cameras and I found some on Flickr here and here. Those pictures are very nice and I would love to see more of them. I also can’t wait to find a picture of that lens attached on the NEX. If you have some feel free to send me images and links at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com.

If you want to get the lens [shoplink 3503]click here to see current Summicron 35mm auctions on eBay[/shoplink]. The lens is available in silver and black. You can also buy the Summicron directly at Amazon.

The swiss website Artaphot.ch (yes it is in english) wrote a very good comparison between the new Zeiss 24mm lens, Zeiss 24-70mm, [shoplink 3034]Zeiss 16-35mm[/shoplink], Minolta 24mm and Miolta 17-35mm lens! The new 24mm Zeiss delivers very sharp images “more than 90% of the full frame are displayed with perfect resolution and nearly perfect contrast.” and “the image quality of the 2/24mm @ f2 is comparable to the image quality of the ZA 2.8/24-70mm @ f 11“. Thanks Artaphot for sharing us that very good review!
