Sony Artisan Caroline Jensen posted a nice set of images shot with the brand new Velvet 56mm f/1.6 A-mount lens on the Sony A7s. See them all at carolinejensen website (Click here). She writes:

The Velvet 56  has a dreamy book too, and a killer build (very similar to all metal vintage lenses) with dreamy halation properties (the velvet look) from f1.6 to about f4. When you stop down the halation diminishes and it becomes a standard lens that is razor sharp. The only way I can describe it is that it has an “old Hollywood” feel.

The lens can be bought at Lensbaby’s website (Click here).

ePhotozine (Click here) posted the full review of the World’s First 2:1 Magnification Lens with Infinity Focus. So it’s worth to check out the review even if they tested the lens on the Canon mount version:

At 2:1 ratio, the front of the lens is just about 5cm from the subject which can lead to the camera and lens blocking ambient light, so something you have to learn to deal with. IQ is of course of prime importance, and this lens is very sharp. If your focus is precise, you will find the detail produced is excellent. My early experience in using this lens is that it is most definitely worth the purchase price and more!

You can buy the lens for $379 from [shoplink 34680 ebay]eBay Hong Kong sellers (Click here)[/shoplink].

The Sony A7II is capable of fulfilling two tasks that only 2 years ago where pure dreams:

1) Use any kind of third-party lens on an affordable Full Frame camera
2) Improve the image quality with those lenses by adding on sensor stabilization.

So I figured out it would be nice to show you how you can spend $100 or less for a second-hand lens and take great pictures with it.

New A6000 Flash Bounce Card, new Ikelite housing and a new review from Colby Brown.

a6000fl

SAR reader Ferrell McCollough sent me this:

The Sony A6000 Flash bounce cards have a new addition. I just added the Amber Flash Bounce card to the set of White and Clear cards. If you want to have a look, these products have been popular among the A6000 owners. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-A6000-Flash-Bounce-Card/dp/B00LEX4RW4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427319737&sr=8-1&keywords=Sony+A6000+Flash+Bounce.

There is also a new underwater TTL Housing for Sony Alpha a6000 from Ikelite.

And Colby Brown reviewed the A6000:

If you told me two years ago that for less than $600 I could get my hands on a mirrorless camera that not only compares to most DSLRs in terms of features, functionality and image quality, but beats many of them, I would of thought you were crazy. To me, Sony has created an incredible camera at an incredible price point that is honestly hard to beat. On top of it being much more affordable that most DSLRs, it offers awesome image quality, 11 fps shooting and an AF system that for the most part is better that most other cameras out there. In addition, add Sony’s wifi/app support and its growing line of both e & fe mount lenses, and the Sony a6000 becomes an even better deal.
