Techart Contax G autofocus adapter gets full A7rII support via firmware update!

[shoplink 39860 ebay][/shoplink]

Techart updated their [shoplink 39860 ebay]Contax G to E-mount autofocus adapter[/shoplink] firmware to support the full 399 phase detection autofocus system of the new Sony A7rII. You can get it here: techart-logic.com/2015/DL.html.

Chad Wadsworth already tested the new version and there is on bad and one good news:
Bad news:I’ve found that when attempting focus at the minimum focus distance (MFD) of each lens, the adapter will hunt badly and worse, slip into a contrast detection mode that will continue to hunt when focused at longer distances.
Good news:On the upside, the 90/2.8 is very fast to focus – as fast as my Batis 85/1.8 and is sure footed, finding focus in situations where even the Batis struggled. Truly remarkable.

You can find the [shoplink 39860 ebay]Techart Contax to NEX adapter on eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

These are the Contax Full Frame lenses you can use on the A7-A7r-A7s and APS-C E-mount camera with full autofocus and electronic aperture control:

Triple FE lens review: 24-240mm (Digitalrev) 28mm (SLRgear) and Batis 85mm (Admiringliht).

2) SLRgear tested the 28mm FE lens:

“Sony’s produced a nice optic in the form of the 28mm FE ƒ/2 – it hits a good price point for what you get, if you don’t mind paying a slight premium for it.”

3) Admiringlight tested the new Batis 85mm lens and writes:

“The lens is simply spectacularly sharp, and starts that crazy sharpness right from f/1.8. Wide open shots display exceptional clarity and gorgeous background blur while providing a flattering contrast profile for portraits. I simply love the look of the images from this lens. It’s an absolutely top-tier optic and one that I’m already saving my pennies to purchase for myself.”

Diglloyd: “A7rII Focus Accuracy Better than Any DSLR I’ve Ever Used”.

A7rII_leica
Sony A7rII with Leica Summicron tested by DSLRmagazine.

Digglloyd has the merit to have the guts and the skills to highlight both the Sony negatives (SAR article here) and the Sony positives: He just posted (article here) his final thoughts on the A7rII and also noticed one thing:

Something strange happened on my recent trip: I did not see any mis-focused images from the Sony A7R II. I mean, none. Try doing that with a Nikon D810 or Canon 5DS R with an autofocus lens—I have and never come close.

further:

The DSLR is looking like not just a dinosaur, but a lame dinosaur, given these advances. How long will CaNikon watch Sony advance without responding? The Sony A7R II makes outstanding images with low noise and excellent dynamic range at 42 megapixels that are always in focus. Notwithstanding some file quality limitations and disappointing 12-bit behavior in certain situations, nothing else can touch this track record of ultra-high hit rate. And it does so in a relatively compact form factor. I think it is a mistake to ‘diss’ the Sony A7RII for its faults, which most of the time either have a workaround (very careful exposure) and/or are unusual or rare. Trade that off against focus errors of all kinds, size and weight, etc. It’s a fair trade. When and if Sony can fix the few image quality issues, and perhaps add a bit more dynamic range with a Nikon D810 style ISO 64, it’s going to be very hard to argue in favor of any DSLR for 99% of shooters, including my workhorse Nikon D810.

DxO tests the A7rII sensor: Is the new king of Full Frame (by a hair)

Bildschirmfoto 2015-08-26 um 20.03.51

DxOmark (Click here) just posted the full Sony A7rII sensor results. And the A7rII scores the highest result of any Full Frame camera although it beats the Nikon D810 by 1 point only. So yes, we all expected the A7rII to be the best performing camera at DXO, but I guess we also all expected it to be really a couple of points better! And compared to the A7r the new camera has a 0.2 less point dynamic range. Not sure how this one can be correct. I hope other reviewers can check this out!

One more thing: Brian Smith reports that a large Stock of A7rII cameras will ship on September 2 at Bhphoto (get them here now). The camera is alrady in Stock at FocusCamera (Click here).

RX100m4 sensor gets DxOmaked. Is as good as the Canon EOS 7D Mk II sensor!

Bildschirmfoto 2015-08-26 um 18.34.06

DxOmark posted the new Sony RX100m4 sensor test results. The good news is that there is a small improvement compared to the previous generation and:

For a physically small sensor, the new 20-Mpix Exmor RS BSI CMOS chip ranks high, coming in at 116th in our database for sensors of all sizes. Performance ranks alongside recent Micro-Four-Thirds models and even APS-C-equipped DSLR models such as the Canon EOS 7D Mk II and EOS 760D.

New A7rII reviews:

Shawn C. Steiner at Explora (Click here):

It is important to note that even though I did encounter a variety of small issues, the image quality makes many of these just not worth worrying about, and I would have no problem recommending this camera to most people. The only reservation I would have is with photographers who solely shoot in a studio, as a full-sized DSLR with proper ports, a more balanced build, and an optical viewfinder may benefit them, as the weight-savings of the mirrorless design doesn’t really matter too much.
In the end, Sony has released a truly impressive camera, and one that I expect to find at or near the top of many “Best Cameras of 2015” lists at the end of this year.

Also Admiringlight posted his full A7rII review:

Overall, despite the few shortcomings, the A7R II is well worth its asking price.  It’s not going to replace a main body for many event or sports shooters, but most everyone else will be quite pleased with what Sony has put in this camera. Landscape photographers especially will love the wide dynamic range and exceptional detail. While it’s not perfectly executed, the Sony A7R II is currently the best mirrorless camera on the market.  If you can swing the price of the camera and the price of the outstanding glass needed to fully realize its potential, it’s well worth a look for the serious shooter.

3D-Kraft posted another Sony A7RII Aerial report. Video can be seen o Vimeo and Youtube.
