Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II Review at SonyAlphaBlog and ePhotozine: “Smaller, lighter, better in many ways especially sharpness”

16-35GMII at BHphoto, Amazon US&EU, Adorama, FotoErhardt, Fotokoch, Calumet, WexUK. Sony AUS.

ePhotozine tested the new lens and concluded:

Smaller, lighter, better in many ways especially sharpness, the FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II lens is Sony at the top of their game. The resolution is still well up to the most recent, higher pixel counts from camera bodies such as the 60MP A7C R used in this review. Handling is superb, focusing fast and virtually silently and really the only downside to all of this is the price. However, after probably many years of use the price itself will soon be forgotten and what will remain will hopefully be some very fine images and a lens that still delivers the goods.

The Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II lens is therefore Highly Recommended.

SonyAlphaBlog also tested the lens and writes:

The Sony FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II is the best in all domains except resistance to flare
Compared to the GMI , the GMII is smaller, lighter, is a little bit sharper in the corners wide open, better at 35mm, has shorter min focusing distance so more macro capabilities, has better ergonomics specially for video with its aperture ring, no focus breathing (GM I had one) and being parfocal, it has less vignetting & a faster AF

Sigma 70-200mm size comparisons

Sony 70-200mm GMII vs the new Sigma 70-200mm and the Tamron 70-180mm

New Sigma lens preorders:

70-200mm f/2.8 at BHphoto (preorders will open in December only!).

Asobinet diligently posted some accurate size comparisons. The Sigma is indeed is much bigger than the Sony 70-200mm GMII and double the size of the Tamron 70-180mm lens. Hopefully the Sigma is a stunner when it comes to optical quality so that we can forgive them for the massive size and weight!
