If you own the DJI Mic 2 you have to buy the adapter

The new DJI Mic 2 Camera Adapter for Sony cameras is now in Stock at Amazon US&EU and at DJI store. This is a MUST buy accessory if you own the new DJI Mic 2 (Amazon US&EU, DJI store, BHphoto, Adorama.)

Philip Bloom tested it and wrote:

If you own a Sony cameras and these then it’s a no-brainer as it only cost me about £30 from the DJI store.
You need to update the firmware of the Mic 2 for this work. I’ve put the compatibility list in the comments. It worked on the FX6, FX3, a7siii, a1 and a7iv.
Whilst the RØDE Wireless Pro are a better set as they come with lav mics and have timecode, these are still great and are now the best budget dual wireless microphone system for for the Sony miShoe now. I’ve only come across one other that isn’t by Sony which is from Godox, but they aren’t in the same league. Don’t forget the DJI Mic 2 transmitters also record internally in 32 bit float.

Sony A9III gets the Gold Award at Dpreview: “undeniably ground-breaking camera”

Sony A9III at BHphoto. Amazon. Adorama. FotoErhardt. Fotokoch. Calumet. WexUK.

Dpreview just published the full and final Sony A9III review. The conclusion:

The a9 III is an undeniably ground-breaking camera….sets a new standard for what we can expect from a pro sports camera, and Sony appears to be adding the workflow features that the most demanding pros are requesting. There are some trade-offs being made to deliver the a9 III’s super-fast capabilities but taken as a whole they allow it to pull ahead of the field.

Sony 24-50mm G review at SonyAlphaBlog: “very good compact and light lens”

Sony 24-50mm G at BHphoto, Adorama, Amazon, FotoErhardt, Calumet, Fotokoch, WexUK, ParkCameras, Jessops.

SonyAlphaBlog tested the new 24-50mm f/2.8 G lens and concluded:

The Sony 24-50mm F2.8 G is a very good compact and light lens. Its ergonomics, build quality, AF, sharpness are in line with latest Sony high standards but the range is quite limited and distortion and vignetting are high (but to be corrected automatically in post processing)
Personally I prefer the versatility of the Sony 20-70mm F4 G that allow to use it from landscape to portrait, but if the range 24-50mm is enough for you the Sony 24-50 F2.8 G is a very good lens

New Sony 16-25mm G reviews by Jeven Dovey and Marc Alhadeff

Preorders at Amazon, BHphoto, Adorama, FotoErhardt, FotoKoch, Calumet, WexUK, Amazon.

Marc from SonyAlphaBlog tested the lens and concluded:

The Sony FE 16-25mm F2.8 G (1399) euros is an excellent lens . It offer very similar performance to the Sony FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II : excellent sharpness , AF, ergonomics, color rendition with on top lightweight, small size and “reasonable” price vs GM II. Its only weaknesses are the resistance to flare and distortion/vignetting

Its limited range is perfectly ok for landscape usage vs a 16-35mm. If you own the Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II it will be a very nice complement without overlap. Globally the 16-25mm F2.8 make more sense than the recent Sony FE 24-50mm F2.8 G

Alternatives

The Sony FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II is the best in all domains except resistance to flare, it will offer more range, smoother background blur , less distortion less vignetting but similar sharpness
The Sony PZ 16-35mm F4 G is maybe the best one for video.
Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary and Tamron 17-28mm F2.8 Di III RXD are clearly below on 61Mpix except maybe for resistance to flare.

The price of the Sony 16-25 F2.8 (1399 euros) allow to get the performance of the GMII (2700 euros) at half of its price and considering the improvement over the Sigma and Tamron in term of sharpness, AF, ergonomics, color rendition it is worth the price difference (1400 vs 900 euros)

Highly recommended
