The new 70-180mm FE Tamron lens implements a new generation motor that promises improved AF speed performance over the previous Tamron zooms. Here are a couple of short autofocus tests from Germany and Japan:
I find the AF very good on both stills and video. Stills AF are expandable point and video AF is wide. I feel this will be another killer lens from Tamron! Cant wait to add it to my arsenal while traveling the world shooting rockstars. I will do a deeper video review when I get my copy of a finished product (this is not).
“The Sony FE 20mm f1.8 G is an ultra-wide prime lens designed for Alpha mirrorless cameras and corrected for full-frame sensors. It delivers an ultra wide field-of-view that captures comfortably more than a 24mm, making it ideal for expansive landscapes, tight interiors, wide astro photography, as well as vlogging or environmental portraiture. It has a decent feature set including a de-clickable aperture ring and multi-purpose focus hold button plus its optical performance even surpasses the very good Sony FE 24mm f1.4 GM. This deserves a Highly Recommended!“
The conclusion is that this lens is incredibly good value against the Sony GM lens. The only lens that can compete in terms of value-quality balance is the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 which is a lighter lens but not as wide as the Sigma.
Krolop&Gerst jus posted the worlds first ENGLISH review of the new Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 FE lens. It really looks like this lens can compete with the Sony 70-200mm GM for half the price!
Marc Alhadeff from SonyAlpha.Blog tested the new Tokina 85mm f/1.8 FE lens. he had previously tested the Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 FE and can confirm it appears to be exactly the same lens:
As a copy of the Viltrox 85mm F1.8 PFU RMBH STM , it gives basically same results but at a much higher price
So unless you prefer the different look of the Tokina I would suggets you save some bucks and get the Viltrox instead:
