Canon announced their new R1 flagship model. The big surprise is that this “flagship” model does not compete with the Nikon Z9 and Sony A1.This left me wondering if they will ever release a High Reoslution and High Speed model.

The R1 has a 24MP sensor and looks more like an updated Canon R3, which is rather disappointing. I’m honest enough to praise the competition, like Nikon, when they announce amazing models. But the R1 is not really what I was hoping to see. It certainly is a solid camera for sports photographers that differs from the Sony A9III in handling where the Canon clearly has the edge. But when it comes to specs it’s not really dethroning the Sony A9III: you can see a full specs comparison of the R1 and the Sony A9III on this BHphoto page.
