Image of the A1 ripped into two pieces…

Alois Endl shared these images in our SonyAlphaCamera FB group. He writes:

This is what the component looks like when the sensor of an Alpha 1 is replaced, many thanks to my insurance company that paid for the damage. That costs almost as much as a new Alpha 7M4

There is also a new article on “Why the Sony a1 is an Incredible Flagship” at Explora (Click here). In short:

You can see how Sony has positioned the Alpha lineup and how the a1 has earned its flagship title: the a7R IVA excels in resolution, the a7S III in low-light and video, the a9 II in speed and connectivity… but the a1 is the king of them all. It’s the camera you’d choose if you need the performance of the other three models in one body—the camera that can transition seamlessly from a video shoot one day to a sports event the next to a landscape or portrait shoot the following. Considering how being a working image-maker nowadays has shifted into being less specialized and more multimedia, it only makes sense that Sony’s flagship a1 does the same.

16-35mm FE delayed, A7c coming in 4 months and Tamron and other gear is not in Stock…but there is hope according to this report!

The worldwide semiconductor production crisis is affecting everyone:

  • Two days ago OM Digital announced the new OM-1 will ship two months later than expected (Note: The OM-1 is made of a lot of Sony parts according to this 43rumors article).
  • Today Sony Japan announced the new 16-35mm FE will start to ship out in Summer only
  • Most of the current gear is back ordered or out of Stock: The Sony A7c will ship in 2-4 months only, the A7IV is out of Stock and the Tamron 35-150mm FE is not shipping out since months.

But there is hope! Counterpoint Research reports that “Semiconductor Shortage Likely to Ease Significantly in H2 2022 Despite China Lockdowns“. And in their text they write:

“Coupled with wafer production expansion and continuous supplier diversification, we have witnessed significant improvement in the component supply situation, at least in the first quarter,” observed Li. “The big risk factor moving forward is the lockdowns happening across China right now, especially in and around Shanghai. But if the government can manage the outbreak and help key ecosystem players turn the corner quickly, we believe the broader semiconductor shortage will ease around late Q3 or early Q4.”

If Counterpoint is…on point with their prediction we finally get back to normal by late 2022. Right in time for the A7rV, ZV and “surprise” camera launch!
