Sony NEX-5R manual download. NEX-5N discontinued at BH.

Our reader Michael (Thanks) sent us the link to the NEX-5R manual which is available here at mediafire.com. The camera worldwide shipment should start soon in Asia and ON October 21th in US according to BH. It is again BHphoto that marked the NEX-5N as “discontinued”. But the recent price drop on the NEX-5N put it on top of the mirrorless ranking. And it even managed to be on top 10 of the overall digital camera ranking…pretty much a surprise!

Only six lenses compatible with the A99 102 AF system (support for six more coming)

There was some buzz today because ThePhoBlogapher pointed out that “the 102 AF points will only work in the new AF-D mode of the camera which can sense depth and continuously track objects very accurately. The big news to me and the staff was that the camera only currently supports 6 lenses at this point of time.” At the time of launch the following lenses support AF-D: SAL2470Z, SAL2875, SAL50F14, SAL300F28GII, SAL70400G, SAL50050F4G.

But as I told you before firmware updates will be released to support more lenses. Sony Japan said that by early 2013 also these lenses will be supported: SAL85f14Z, SAL135f18Z, SAL70300G, SAL70200G, SAL100f28 Makro.

Sony changes the RX1 specifications (AF-C gone, 1:4000 shutter coming)

Sony Japan just announced some changes on the newly announced RX1 FF camera. As you see from the image on top the AF-C Auto Focus option has been removed. The second change is that the Shutter Speed Priority now goes as fast as 1:4000 (before it was 1:2000).

One more news. I updated the full rpeorder option list fo the new RX1 and other Sony cameras on Alphacameradeals (including more Sonystore, BHphoto and Europe links). The RX1 for example can be preordered at Amazon, Adorama, BHphoto, and in Europe at Sonystore DEUKFRITESNLSEFICH, Wex UK, Wex Germany.

Vote the cameras that Sony should release for 2013!

A week ago I asked SAR readers to send me a list of camera suggestions. I simplified your very long wishlist in a few type of cameras to realize that poll. Please be aware that we are not going to talk about the details of the single camera yet (like price, features and so on). For now the only goal is to understand what type of camera you would need from Sony. Please be honest. Vote the camera you would really buy knowing that some of the options will be very pricey! Thanks!

Will you buy the 17-28mm FE lens if it's priced around $999?

Ask your friends to participate the poll! More votes we have more Sony will listen….hopefully!

Note: because you can select more than one camera the sum of the percentage will be over 100%. A percentage of lets’ say 43% close to one of the options means that 43% of all single voters that participated selected that specific option.

New Ikelite housing for the RX100.

It’s not an Alpha nor a NEX camera but many SAR readers do own that little germ. And if you are a diver than you may be interest to know that Ikelite announced a new RX100 housing. You can get more news about it at Divephotoguide. And the big and much more expensive brother, the Sony Cyber-shot RX1 got a hands-on at Trustedreviews.

And here is the full Sony-Olympus press meeting!

As you know the big news on the end of the last week was the official Sony and Olympus partnership announcement. Today there was a press meeting in Tokyo and you can read more about it at  DC.watch (translation here). It is the medical business from Olympus that Sony wants most but of course there will be implication in the camera division too. The press conference confirmed that both companies will seek collaboration. Sony will supply sensors to Olympus while Olympus will supply lens and mirrorless technology and knowledge. If google translation didn’t fool me than it’s also clear that many components for future mirrorless cameras will be developed together. It is Sony’s interest to sell Micro Four Thirds sensor and not to make Olympus quit from the system.

I think Olympus can add an immense value to the NEX system by may making High Quality Zuiko lenses for it. Don’t think Olympus will make NEX cameras for now. Or do you really want an E-moun PEN? :)

Sony: There is no need to lower the price of the A99.

Lesnumeriques (translation here) interviewed Mr. Takashi Yasuda from Sony. The main talk was about the [shoplink 14165]new Sony A99[/shoplink] and when asked about the competition and their price he said that “we believe that the Alpha 99 is well positioned and have no intention of facing competitors in the field of 24×36 reflex at discounted prices.“. But he also adds to the end that it is the market that will decide if the price is correct.

As you know Nikon/Canon recently announced their first low price FF cameras, the [shoplink 14524 ebay]Nikon D600 (here on eBay)[/shoplink] and the Canon 6D. While the A99 has manu unique features there may be a need to make a cheaper A95 version to compete against the mentioned FF cameras.
