According to Sony Canada and Amazon Japan the new Zeiss 16-35mm FE lens will start to ship from tomorrow. And SAR reader Cengiz sent us that 16-35mm FE Stock image from a Hong Kong Store. You can check the shipping dates here:
USA/Canada  at Amazon, Adorama, BHphoto, Sony Store US, Sony Canada.
Europe at Sony DE, UK, ES, IT, FR, CH, AT, NL, BE, FI, SE, NO, PT.
Australia and Asia at Sony AUS, Amazon Japan and Digitalrev.

There is also a new full review written by Colby Brown:

Not only was Sony and Zeiss able to engineer a small and lightweight ultra wide angle lens, they were able to do so without sacrificing image quality. I was impressed with the corner to corner sharpness (although it doesn’t de-thrown the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8) as well as how it handles sun stars and can be used hand held with its built in OSS (optical stabilization), especially with the a7s.

Feel free to post your 16-35mm FE unboxing and test pics/videos on our SonyAlphaForum!

Sony says there is no collaboration with Olympus on the camera business (and hints some medium format poker face)

sony_oly

Sony unveiled at DSLRmagazine (google tranlsation) that they still are not working together with Olympus when it comes to develop cameras. For now the only real collaboration is on the medical business.

An interesting “psychological” analysis from DSLRmagazine. When they asked Sony about a possible future RX medium format camera Sony didn’t answer but the “poker face interpretation” from DSLRmagazine makes them believe the camera is coming for real :)

Sony patent shows Z-shift sensor mechanism!

Bildschirmfoto 2014-10-21 um 21.45.42

SonyAlphaForum spotted the US patent 8866965 which discloses a mechanism to changes the flange distance between the mount and the sensor of a camera. It’s basically the Z-shift solution we wrote about last year. This could bring two advantages:

1) Adjust the flange distance depending of the lens

2) You can focus by changing the flange distance rather than focus with the lens. For example you could autofocus with manual Leica lenses.

If you love to read deeply tech details on this just click over at freepatentsonline.com/8866965.html.

Still not sure if such a camera is really coming one day…

Sigma says they still don’t know when they will ship the 24-105mm lens :(

Bildschirmfoto 2014-11-01 um 11.12.01

SAR reader Bruce contacted Sigma UK and asked them when they actually do plan to ship the 24-105mm and 600mm A-mount lenses. The answer he got from Sigma UK is:

At this stage, we do not have any further information I’m afraid, we are awaiting the updates currently ourselves at this stage unfortunately.

The Sigma A-mount lens can be preordered at Amazon (Click here), BHphoto (Click here) and Adorama (Click here).

I took this on the A7r and Sony FE 70-200 F4. I literally just sold my entire Canon setup including a C100 and 5d mark 3 for an A7s and A7r. I’ve been looking for opportunities to test the a7r before my next paid shoot, and saw this herd of bison just off the freeway on the outskirts of Fort Worth. I couldn’t resist pulling over, and I’m glad I did! The amount of dynamic range and detail I can pull from the shadows is ridiculous, and it completely blows my Canon system out of the water in this regard.
