New primers for the Sony A7sII
Hrvoje from Omeneo (Click here) made the primers for the Sony A7sII:
Happy to announce that A7S2 is now optimized as well. I tested in thoroughly and made appropriate transformation setups for both S-Log2 and Cine4 gammas. S-Gamut3Cine is used as a color basis with both.
S-Log2 gives about a stop more of DR at the cost of usability in 8 bit video with high luminosity gradients, such as sky. It is usable in many other scenarios, when more DR is important for highlight information, such as interior shots with windows and bright exterior. Cine4 gamma (additionally modified in camera as suggested on the Primers page) gives more all-around performance and dynamic range sufficient for majority of shooting scenarios. Primers improve both profiles, achieving:1) Improved color accuracy across the signal range
2) More natural looking image
3) Getting the most out of available DR
4) Stabilized spectral response as quality basis for further gradingPrimers are specific, per-camera designed, in-depth color response optimizations and now Sony A7S2 is covered as well and its users can see what it is capable of. Make sure you setup the camera for both profiles as suggested on the Primers page and apply them on material before any further color modifications and final look creation.
I’ve been asked about usage of Primers in photography. Yes, they work as long as they are used for the camera and gamma and color profiles they are designed for. I’m using them with both stills and video. Photoshop and Affinity support their 3DLUT form.
